Tour Details

Our driver-guide will welcome you and pick you from the airport to then transfer you to the hotel. He will then brief you about the details of the upcoming safari.

Depending on your time of arrival, you might have some time to do a city tour through Kampala as well as change some money for local currency - Uganda Shilling.

You will rest and prepare for the next morning when you leave Kampala.

DAY 2: Kampala to Murchison Falls National Park

After your morning breakfast, you will drive to Murchison Falls National Park which is North-west of Kampala.

You will stop along the way at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary where you can enjoy a short walking safari to track the resident rhinos. The 1.5-hour visit will allow you close encounters with Rhinos as well as other animals that inhabit the sanctuary. The Rhinos at Ziwa were reintroduced after their extinction in Uganda during the height of poaching in the 1970s.

From Ziwa you will get back on the road and proceed to Murchison Falls National Park via Karuma. You will arrive at the lodge in time for lunch and an afternoon of relaxation. You will wait for your evening game drive into the National Park where you will get your fist 'official' encounter with the animals of Murchison Falls - and the stunning sunset over the vast savannah.

After the game drive, you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

DAY 3: Murchison Falls NP Game drive & Boat Cruise

Wake up very early in the morning for your game drive on Murchison Falls' Northern bank of the Nile. In your pop-open-roof safari vehicle, you will have great views of the animals and the landscape.

Your guide will help you spot elephant, lion, cape buffalo, Roth child’s giraffe, hartebeest, waterbuck, oribi, bushbuck, bohor reedbuck, hyena and if you are lucky, the leopard.

After lunch, go for a boat cruise upstream the calm Victoria Nile to the base of the falls stopping just a few meters from the ‘Devil’s Cauldron’, marvel at the schools of hippos, crocodiles and over the 17km stretch you may see elephant, waterbuck, and Uganda Kob.

This is also the zone of many birds, species like goliath heron, Egyptian goose, pelican bee-eater, kingfisher, hornbill, cormorant, and the rare shoebill stork.

After taking shots of the photogenic Murchison Falls, you may choose to continue to the top of the falls, where you will have an amazing view of the falls. You will get to see where the Nile -the world's longest river explodes violently through a narrow cleft in the Rift Valley escarpment to plunge into a frothing pool 40m below.

You will then return to your lodge and relax in the evening.

DAY 4: Transfer to Kibale National Park

Today you will have an early morning breakfast and check out of the lodge for your journey to Kibale Forest National Park. You will say goodbye to Murchison Falls NP and drive south through Hoima town and on to Fort Portal.

The drive goes through the scenic Ugandan country-side dotted with village homes, farms, small towns, and large Tea estates. You will stop on Fort Portal for lunch before proceeding to your lodge in Kibale National Park later in the afternoon.

You will check into your lodge and have some time to relax from the day on the road. You will have your dinner and overnight stay here as you prepare to see chimpanzees the next day.

DAY 5: Chimpanzee tracking in Kibale National Park

After your morning breakfast at the lodge, you will transfer to the starting point for Chimpanzee tracking. Before setting off into the forest with the ranger, you will be briefed about some guidelines by the Uganda Wildlife Authority staff.

Kibale National Park has the highest concentration of primates in East Africa and of the 13 species, the most famous is our close cousin - the chimp. Seeing chimpanzees interact with each other is a humbling experience that demonstrates how closely related they are with humans.

Apart from chimpanzees, you will also see other primates such as l'Hoest's Monkey, Blue monkey, Olive baboon, and more. You will see some birds and a wide range of colorful butterflies.

Alternatively, you may opt to do a chimpanzee habituation experience by paying an extra cost. This exercise takes the whole entire day. Advance booking is necessary for this option.

After your lunch, you will go to Bigodi Swamp for a nature walk in the community conserved swamp. The Bigodi wetland sanctuary was established by the local community to protect the local swamp and its species of animals and birds. The swamp is home to about 200 species of birds and gets regular visits from more than 8 primate species - sometimes even chimps.

The Bigodi swamp walk is a good way to learn about local conservation as well as the local ways of life of the people. From Bigodi, you will head back to the lodge to relax, have dinner, and stay the night.

DAY 6:  Transfer from Kibale to Queen Elizabeth National Park

After your breakfast at the lodge, you will leave Kibale National Park and proceed to Queen Elizabeth National Park. You will follow the shadow of the mystical Rwenzori Mountain Range which provides some great scenery for you to drive through.

You will enter Queen Elizabeth National Park, and on the drive to your lodge, you will be able to spot some animals especially the abundant Uganda kob, baboons, and some warthogs that are always grazing about. You will arrive at the lodge just in time for your lunch and some time to relax.

Later in the afternoon, you will take a unique 2-hour boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel into Lake Edward. This trip passes through possibly the highest concentration of hippos and this launch cruise offers an excellent platform for photography, bird watching, and game viewing.  The prolific bird life is colorful and stupendous, with well more than 600 resident species.

After the launch cruise, you will return to the lodge for your dinner and overnight stay.

DAY 7: Queen Elizabeth NP Game Drive & Ishasha

After your morning breakfast, you will head into the wild for your morning game drive. On the game drive, you will have excellent opportunities for seeing elephants, buffaloes, lions, leopard, hyena, and more.

Early morning game drives are the perfect time for wildlife and landscape pictures, so carry your camera.

Alternatively, you may opt to go for a hot-air balloon safari on payment of a supplement of 380 USD. Arise very early in the morning and proceed to the starting point of your balloon safari at the Kasenyi gate of Queen Elizabeth NP at 5:30 am.

This early drive in the dark is a chance to see nocturnal animals that live in and around the park. You will meet your pilot and be given a safety briefing and instructions for boarding the balloon as well as landing procedures.

The flight gives you great photo opportunities that are different from an ordinary safari on the ground. As you gently drift over the park, you can watch the sunrise as the savannah below comes to life with birds and animals.

After landing, celebrate the flight with a glass of sparkling wine. After the toast, passengers sit down to a delectable bush breakfast prepared by Mweya Safari Lodge. The bush breakfast makes for a memorable ending to your ballooning adventure in Queen Elizabeth NP.

In the afternoon, you will then transfer to the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth - the home of tree-climbing lions. In Ishasha, you will go on an evening game drive to see the tree-climbing lions as well as the other animals that call this place home.

You will then return to the lodge for your dinner and overnight stay.

DAY 8: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After your breakfast, it will be time to say bye-bye to Queen Elizabeth National Park and its great savannah. You will drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park through the fertile and mountainous Kigezi highlands.

The terraced hillsides with crop farms and village homesteads provide a very different landscape from any part of the Ugandan side already seen on this tour. The winding roads will lead you to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and you will reach your lodge late in the afternoon.

You will check into the lodge and relax as you prepare for the morning's gorilla trekking expedition. Bwindi and Kigezi generally have cooler temperatures than most of Uganda and evenings can get really chilly.

DAY 9: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After an early breakfast, you will be transferred to the starting point for gorilla trekking. You will be briefed about the gorilla trek you are about to embark on and the various guideline to observe.

You will then be led into the dense rainforest by an experienced ranger who will answer all your questions about gorillas and the other plants and animals in the park.

The hike on these steep hills is physically demanding - and quite literally not a walk in the park. The sighting of the gorillas will make every part of the tiresome hike disappear as you stare into those red and yet gentle eyes. The is no description of seeing gorillas eat, play, and bond with their young ones.

You will spend 1 hour with the mountain gorillas and hike back to the starting point - where your driver-guide will take you back to the lodge. If your trek was short, you might have a guided community and nature walk around the lodge and local villages.

Gorilla treks can at times take longer, depending on how fast the gorillas move since they had been spotted first in the morning. Make sure to pack correctly as our consultant will advise you on your final itinerary (especially for this activity).

After a wonderful and tiring day, you will return to the lodge for some well-needed rest. You will enjoy your dinner and overnight stay.

DAY 10: Drive from Bwindi Impenetrable to Kampala

After your breakfast, you will leave Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and drive back to Kampala. You will have a leisurely drive through Kabale, Mabara, Masaka, and all the wonderful countryside that surrounds these areas.

You will make a stopover at the equator for some pictures of you straddling two hemispheres at a go. You could also do the water experiment that differentiates the hemispheres. You can also make another stopover at the Mpigi Royal Drum Makers and watch the crafting of ceremonial drums using methods that have been passed on through the generations.

You will reach Kampala in the afternoon and your driver-guide will drop you at your desired location or the airport.
